Founded in 1961 as the College of Engineering in Delhi, IIT Delhi has been declared an "Institution of National Significance" and was renamed "Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi). It was later granted and considered university status. IIT Delhi was ranked 2nd and 4th in the “Engineering” and “General” categories by NIRF 2022 ranking. IIT Delhi is an autonomous public research institute, located in New Delhi. It is ranked 2nd among the best engineering universities in India by NIRF. The institute was ranked 174th in the QS World University Rankings 2023. IIT Delhi has concluded admissions for all courses including BTech for the academic year 2022. Admission for Ph.D. and Masters in IIT Delhi science 2022-23 is ongoing. The institute has published the list of shortlisted candidates for doctoral and master's interviews. Entrance tests and interviews for shortlisted candidates will take place from December 1 to 12.
Apart from these, the institute was also ranked 4th in the “Management” category by NIRF 2022. 'IITD has 19 Centers of Excellence, four of which are established by IIT Delhi, eight are industry-sponsored and seven are funded by sponsored projects. Currently, the institute offers more than 85 courses at UG, PG levels, and Ph.D. These courses are taught in 16 departments and six separate schools of IITD IITD is expanding its borders with an extension campus being established in Sonepat and another soon in Jhajjar, Haryana.
IITD offers around 100 courses with various specializations. These courses are offered in full-time, sponsored full-time and part-time programs at UG, PG, and Ph.D. levels. BTech is the flagship program of IIT Delhi and lasts for four years.
The duration of PG programs, such as MTech, MBA, MSc, and MDEs, is two years each. In addition, IITD has signed MOUs with foreign universities to offer joint PhDs and JDPs. The institute is also known for its special PG degree programs for DMRC and Indian Navy-sponsored candidates. Recently, IITD has started offering six- to one-year certification courses, including digital marketing, data science, and human resource management, among others.
