Bridge Team Management (BTM)
This course is in accordance with IMO Model Course 1.22 “Ship Simulator and Bridge teamwork” The course addresses the current requirements of STCW 10 section B-VIII-2, Part 3-1 and has been designed to meet the Bridge Team Management requirements detailed in Table A-II/I of the 2010 Manila amendments to the STCW Convention and Code.
SCOPE OF THE COURSE :
The Bridge Team Management course will ensure that the navigating officers recognize the importance of proper planning, threat assessment, effective communications and good team work. The candidates are trained to work safely and successfully as a team, making the most efficient and effective use of all the resources on board.
COURSE CONTENT:
- Familiarization – Effective Management of Bridge team
- Passage Planning – Routes, Way points, planning
- Bridge Procedures – Bridge Team concept, functional bridge team, check list, logs
- Ship Handling – Use of maneuvering data, vessel hydrodynamics, use of engine controls, anchor handling, restricted visibility & heavy weather navigation.
- Watch-keeping Conditions – Watch augmentation, changes, management of work and rest periods.
- Effective Communications – Confirmation and application of information among bridge teamwork members.
- Integration of Pilot into bridge team
- Situational Awareness – Error-trapping, reassessment of priorities, resource allocation, use of bridge systems and equipment.
- Leadership – Maintaining bridge discipline, vigilance, positioning, watch-keeping personnel
- Response to Bridge Emergencies – Failure of a critical component in integrated navigation system, incapacity of bridge teamwork member(s).
